A very interesting thought popped into my head this morning. It took me to a deeper level of understanding God’s incomprehensible love for us. I say incomprehensible because I don’t think anyone currently living can really and fully understand just how much He loves us, especially after considering what I’m about to share. Here’s my thought, but first I need to frame it up as best I can from a human perspective. Taking a huge liberty, imagine for a moment that you are God before anything that relates to humankind was created—before the universe, the galaxies, the earth, and all mankind. You (as God) are in Heaven with God the Son – Jesus and the Holy Spirit, forming the Trinity. You are tremendously excited because you have it in your heart to create something so immense, so epic, so significant, and of such great consequence and magnitude that it defies description. You share it with the other two. You say: “I want to create a new being; someone like us; someone who will have a living immortal spirit; someone who will have free will and will have the right of choice; someone who will have the ability to love and be loved by us and will have tremendous value to us!” Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are overjoyed at this prospect. So, the Trinity begin to plan what this amazing being will look like as a triune being—with a body, soul and spirit. And so, they created, man. Let’s hit the pause button here. If you know what happens next, you know what this amazing person and his wife with immortal living spirits along with free wills with the right of choice, ability to love and be loved by The Trinity did. With their right to choose between sin and obedience, they chose to disobey God and therefore sinned. As a result, God confronted them and responded with (among other things) that Jesus (the offspring of the woman) will crush Satan’s head, and that Satan would strike or bruise his (Jesus’) heel. Fast forward a few thousand years. We now know how this panned out. Jesus would come, be crucified and be raised from the dead. This was Satan striking Jesus’ heel. In turn as a result of this, Jesus would crush Satan’s head in defeating spiritual death as now mankind could come freely to God through a new open way through accepting Jesus as their Saviour for the forgiveness of all their sin. Let’s hit another pause button. All my life I was inclined to think that when Adam and Eve sinned, God had to come up with Plan B. But here’s the thing: God never has to come up with plan B when He orchestrates something. He would have known all ramifications well before the event. Let’s go back to the beginning to hopefully tie this all together. Here’s the question: Do you think that when the Trinity got together at our beginning to plan mankind, that they would have thought of this contingency? Or do you think that when Adam and Eve sinned, God said “Oops. What are we going to do now? How are we going to fix this?” This of course sounds and is ridiculous. Of course, God would have known, right? And as such God would already have had a plan in place well before this. Here’s where the incomprehensible love of God comes in. I believe that even before mankind was created, when he was in the developmental stages of planning by The Trinity if you will, that God the Father, Jesus the Son and The Holy Spirit contended with the possibility that man could (not would, but did) sin, and were that to be the case, they knew that the only way to save him from eternal death and redeem him, would be for Jesus to take man's place, pay the penalty for man's sin by dying for him, and the Father would raise his Son from the dead and be seated at God's right hand. In considering my little tale I’m quite sure it did not occur this way, but let’s not discount this reality: That God, His Son and Spirit would have had to have known what could occur giving humankind these significant attributes that would have enormous far-reaching consequences. And, that their love for these beings was so immeasurable, they were willing to give them to mankind anyways, risking the possibility of Jesus going to the cross. And so, they did. And man fell. God the Father sent His one and only begotten Son to be crucified for you and me, and Jesus went for you and me. Not only that, Jesus sent The Holy Spirit to help us here and now, until He comes back. The next time you feel worthless, small or insignificant, never ever say you are nothing, you are far too valuable. Jesus didn’t die for nothing, he died for you and me. So great is their love, that in the planning stages they thought of you and me, and thought we were worth it.
